First Woody Allen, then Julian Schnabel, closely followed by Tarsem Singh and now the 26 year old ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star Freida Pinto is all set to play the tragic Tess in Michael Winterbottom’s contemporary Indian version of the Thomas Hardy classic ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’. The book itself has been adapted numerous times before, one of which was the 1979 Roman Polanski-directed film Tess starring Natassia Kinski
Freida will star alongside Riz Ahmed (Four Lions) in an Indian version of Thomas Hardy‘s novel, to be directed by Michael Winterbottom. The title is TRISHNA, about “a wealthy property developer who falls for the daughter of an auto rickshaw driver.”
This is the third time Winterbottom has gone for Hardy’s adaptations, the two previous ones being 1996?s Jude starring Kate Winslet, and then 2000?s The Claim. The movie starts its shoot in India in March. Winterbottom has already shot ‘A Mighty Heart’ in India.
A lot has been said and portrayed in Bollywood cinema on the subjects revolving around the strained relationship of India and Pakistan. Now, the latest project from the Oscar-winning Hollywood director Julian Schnabel, ‘Miral’ starring Freida Pinto could act as yet another effort to ease up the tension between two nations. With reference to the strife between Israel and Palestine, the film maker stresses on the fact how the two countries can move forward and leave their history of war behind. With Freida being the face of India in the west, she could well be the voice of the youth over the Indo-Pak issue.
The storyline of the film tells about a naïve Palestinian teen who gradually awakens to her people’s plight after being raised in an orphanage opened to care for children rendered homeless following the partitioning of Palestine in 1948. Shortly after the state of Israel was created, Hind Husseini (Hiam Abbass) was on her way to work when she noticed more than 50 Palestinian children wandering aimlessly through the streets. Husseini takes in nearly 2,000 orphaned children, and creates the Dar Al-Tifel Institute, which operates under the philosophy that peace can only be achieved through education. Enter seven-year-old Miral (Freida Pinto), who was sent by her father to live in the Dar Al-Tifel Institute following her mother’s death in 1978. Far too young to comprehend the ongoing struggle between the Jews and Palestinians at the time she entered the institute, Miral remained blissfully ignorant of the conflict taking place just outside her walls until she accepted a teacher’s position at a refugee camp at the age of 17. As the reality of the ongoing conflict comes into focus for Miral, she enters into a romance with Hani (Omar Metwally), an outspoken political activist intent on taking back Palestine by force. Seduced by Hani’s passion yet uncertain that violence is the answer, Miral begins to weigh the benefits of direct action against the more peaceful and deliberate approach to independence favored by her longtime mentor.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow admits that she felt like a zombie after giving birth to her son Moses in 2006 as she had slipped into postpartum depression.
“I felt like a zombie. I couldn’t access my heart. I couldn’t access my emotions. I couldn’t connect,” said Paltrow.
“It was terrible, it was the exact opposite of what had happened when Apple was born. With her, I was on cloud nine. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t the same. I just thought it meant I was a terrible mother and a terrible person,” she added.
Paltrow revealed that it was her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who first thought she might be suffering from postpartum depression. And the star admits that it was hard for her to accept the fact, reports people.com.
“About four months into it, Chris came to me and said, ‘Something’s wrong. Something’s wrong. I kept saying, ‘No, no, I’m fine.’ But Chris identified it, and that sort of burst the bubble,” she added.
“I thought postpartum depression meant you were sobbing every single day and incapable of looking after a child. But there are different shades of it and depths of it, which is why I think it’s so important for women to talk about it. It was a trying time. I felt like a failure,” she added.
A relaxed, six-month long break on a mountain is all that British singer Cheryl Cole wants after going through a marriage split and contracting malaria in 2010.
“It would be nice to take six months out and got to a mountain top and just meditate,
let myself go,” Cole has been quoted as saying by contactmusic.com.
Last year was quite stressful for her as she divorced her soccer player husband Ashley Cole and battled potentially-fatal malaria, which she contracted during a trip to Africa with rumoured boyfriend Derek Hough.
After her split, she even thought of taking some therapy, but decided against it.
“It crossed my mind but I’m not trusting enough to bare my soul to a stranger. I’m lucky that I’ve got friends and family to turn to,” she said.
No matter how she felt, she was determined to put on a brave face in public.
“It’s very much a perception. Nobody knows what I went through behind closed doors.
“Nobody knows what it was like when I was on my own. Of course I held it together in public. Who wouldn’t?”
She is now a judge on the US version of “The X Factor”.

Anne Hathaway had an “intellectual orgy” with Jake Gyllenhaal while filming “Love & Other Drugs”.
The 28-year-old beauty had long discussions with the Oscar-nominated star about what turned them both on so they were not scared to explore intimacy with each other in the Ed Zwick-directed movie, reports gossipblender.com.
“We talked about our own experiences with love and intimacy, about what turned us on and what didn’t. So it was completely open from the get-go. Jake described it as a kind of intellectual orgy and I think that sums it up best,” she said.
Despite their openness and the film’s multiple nude scenes, Anne doesn’t believe it is a movie those too young to have experienced love would understand.
“This is a sophisticated look at adult love. It isn’t a movie for teenagers. I don’t think they would understand it,” she said.
